| Had a customer as the weight of Bodkin broadheads the other day if anyone is interested. Bodkin's with insert are about 160-172gr and without the insert 140-160gr. |

| When I shot a compound, I wanted a rangefinder. It just made all those fancy colored pins make more sense. Now that I just use a longbow, the idea of a rangefinder seems so remote. Now good binoculars, those sound useful. |

I'd like to feel comfortable enough that I could make my own bows, but life is too short. At least now it is, maybe someday it will be longer, and I'll try to build a few bows. I have a 55# Savanah (Martin), a 50# Bear Montana longbow, and a 75# Yew longbow from CN Archery in Great Falls, MT, which I need to grow into a bit. I'd like to try my hand at stalking Elk next year, so I want to become skilled with a heavier wt bow that can handle a heavier arrow and broadhead, so I've just ordered a 65# Martin Viper - I've always thought bamboo and resin would be awesome in a bow and now I'll find out I guess. While I feel a resonance with a traditional longbow, I don't see any issue with using the best blend of natural and synthetic materials to build the best archery system. |

Hi J. I believe I spoke with your dad this AM. I just ordered a Martin Viper from you, and I look forward to its being shipped to me from WA. I used to be a compound shooter, and was really enamored with all that technology speed and power. I had a Martin Unicam of some sort and was doing a lot of my own tune work, only to have a cable snap while checking pull weight one evening. No injury, but I've been a totally traditional archer since. I must admit there is a grace and beaut in a reflex deflex longbow that is difficult to capture in a comp[ound I think. And while it was great to tweek my compound and its sights, peeps, and releases to where I could stay within a couple rings of center at 40 yards, it is much more fun, and fullfilling, to get a good grouping shooting my Savanah instinctively at 20 yards. I enjoy your site, like the prices, and hope to see you prosper at this into the future. Best of luck. Mark |

| Most of the Martin longbows and recurves are great bows. Get a less expensive bow at around 45# so you can concentrate on learning good shooting mechanics before you consider a heavier weight bow which might be better for actual hunting. A 45# bow is sufficient for deer, but your ability to use a heavier arrow/broadhead might ultimately motivate you to hunt with a heavier bow, like around 50# and up. |
